Q.   What is an escorted group tour?

An escorted group tour is typically thought of as a packaged tour offered by a tour operator that any individual can join. The tour follows a set itinerary and schedule and is led by the tour operator's tour leader, or escort, and may be joined by local guides.

An escorted group tour may also be an independent tour customized for a pre-formed group of individuals with a common interest. While the tour is managed by the tour operator, the group itself will typically include a tour leader.

An escorted group tour constructed by a tour operator may include various tour components such as:

return group air transportation between individual gateways and the destination;

accommodation in a hotel, a villa or a castle;

full daily breakfasts and most lunches and dinners, including welcome dinners;

transfers between train stations, airports, boat terminals and hotels);

ground transportation by either motorcoach or rail;

all sightseeing tours by bus or walking;

visits to attractions, scenic towns, historic centers, museums, etc.;

river cruises or dinner cruises; and,

various special features (such as wine or beer tasting, concerts, operas, special events or folklore performances)

An independent escorted group tour can be packaged together for you by an experienced tour operator with expertise in the destinations and in custom designing tours.  Such tours may be offered as well as an incentive group tour with a variety of specific incentive features included.
