The world celebrates the 250th Anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most famous Austrian of all time, in 2006.  Music lovers from all over will travel to Austria to attend special celebrations, concert and opera performances, and to visit his birthplace in Salzburg. The last 10 years of his musical career were spent in Vienna, where he died at the young age of 35, at 1 am on December 5, 1791, while writing the Requiem.    

Mozart enjoyed a brilliant and prolific career, having written an unbelievable 626 works, the first at the age of 5. In addition to the many operas for which Mozart is best known, he penned dozens of symphonies and more than a dozen masses, including the Coronation Mass, and his most moving piece, the Requiem, which was finished after his death by his pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr.
