IN HUNGARY
operates a fleet of modern European
cars for easy and comfortable countryside touring throughout Hungary. Through an exclusive
arrangement with Rhapsody Tours, we are pleased to include Budget
in our program in order to ensure a trouble-free motoring experience
while in Hungary.
Your rental will be fully pre-paid
as part of your tour package.
All rentals are all-inclusive offering: unlimited
mileage; theft protection; CDW and PAI coverage. As with all car
rental companies in Hungary, however, there is a non-waiverable
responsibility (in the form of a refundable deposit) in the event of
an accident. So you will have to put this onto a major credit card
(Amex, Diners, Eurocard, MasterCard or VISA), although nothing is
charged through unless you’ve had an accident. Cash is not accepted
for the non-waiverable deposit.
Rhapsody Tours typically books
mid-size, four-door cars
with automatic transmission and air conditioning, although a full
range of car sizes from a mini to a 9-passenger van is available.

Your rental will be delivered by
Budget conveniently right to
your hotel, and you can leave the car, full of gas, at the hotel on your return back to
Budapest. Rhapsody Tours will provide further instructions in order to assist you
with this.

What’s driving in Hungary like?
It’s a pleasure! The expressways are modern four
lane roads, as part of the European highway system, heading out of
Budapest in all directions. Some motorways are now toll roads. The
main highways are usually two lanes in excellent condition, but
somewhat faster than what you may be used to. You do need to beware
of slow moving vehicles on the road, from time to time, including
donkey carts loaded with hay or potatoes.
While the expressways skirt around centers, the
main highways tend to take you through the centers of town. The roads
are well signed, however, so by following your highway numbered road
sign, or watching for signs indicating the next town or village, you
should have a very enjoyable time. In no time at all, you’ll be
comfortably driving just like the Hungarians.
Your Rhapsody Tours Guidebook will include a
suggested detailed itinerary and route, with maps, to help you get
around. Even getting out of Budapest, starting from your hotel, is
easy with our Guidebook. Don’t be afraid to explore off the main
roads, or get out of the car and walk around a bit, as this is when
you’ll encounter villagers and village life at its best.
One thing to note…make sure your headlights are
on during daytime driving. Also, you should be warned that there is a
strict zero-tolerance policy in effect for drinking and driving. The
use of seat belts is mandatory. Don’t be surprised if you encounter a
police check-stop for drinking or headlights.
