Group Tour - "Dvorak's Czech Inspiration Tour" - 2005
Day 1: Arrive in Prague and transfer from the airport to your hotel by bus. This evening, after resting a bit on your first day, we have a welcome dinner planned including wine and a folklore performance. Welcome to Prague and the fabulous Czech Republic!
Day 2: This morning we check out and start our journey through the Czech Republic, with a first stop at Karlovy Vary for a short walking tour of this famous spa town. From there, it’s a quick tour of the world famous Nizbor glass factory (great gift shop!), and on we go to the UNESCO world heritage town of Cesky Krumlov. Dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: After a tour of Cesky Krumlov, including a visit to the castle and a look at a very real medieval theatre (the only one like it in all of Europe), we travel on to the town of Trebon. Dinner and overnight in Trebon.
Day 4: Today we explore Trebon. A well-preserved Bohemian town dating back to the beginning of the 12th century. Trebon is a treasure chest of historical monuments, a wonderful old Castle, an Augustin Friar’s monastery, and Spas. After our tour this morning, we check out and travel on to Jindrichuv Hradec, also a town in southern Bohemia. A town of only about 23,000 proud people, Jindrichuv is also a historic town with a state owned Castle which is the third largest castle in all of the Czech Republic. After we arrive, you’re on your own again to explore at your leisure. Dinner and overnight in Jindrichuv Hradec.
Day 5: This morning we explore the city center of Jindrichuv Hradec with our guide, finishing in the historic city center where you’ll see one of the oldest houses in Europe among the various breathtaking sights before you. After the tour you’re free to explore on your own, conduct your own photo tour, or just catch up on some shopping. For dinner, you’re on your own to try one of the many restaurants available. Overnight in the same hotel.
Day 6: This morning we travel to the fourth in our series of 6 historic, awe-inspiring medieval Bohemian and Moravian towns. We’ll go to Telc and enjoy a guided tour through this UNESCO world heritage protected town. Telc is actually situated in Moravia, only 30 km from Austria. Telc, dating back at least to 1335, is probably most famous for its Renaissance style house on the main square, all of which are perfectly preserved masterpieces of Italian architectural makeovers during the latter half of the 16th century. The renaissance influence was not touched by the later Baroque period, and we are left to marvel at the original beauty. After the visit to Telc, we travel on to Policka, the city of mysterious nights. Dinner and overnight in Policka.
Day 7: Policka is a medieval walled town, a cultural center of the area with a variety of attractions, other than the 1220 meters of wall, to make it very distinctive. The town is famous for its beer, which you can sample in one of the many taverns in town. The baroque style town hall houses a rich collection of local works of art, and even the many beautifully carved gates gracing the old houses are art masterpieces in their own right. After our tour and a brief stay in Policka, we travel on to Litomysl, one of my most memorable towns. Dinner and overnight in Litomysl.
Day 8: You wake up in your hotel in Litomysl, in eastern Bohemia, this morning right on the enchanting main square. From here, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the town’s highlights including the renaissance Castle and then travel on to the last of the small historic towns of the Czech Republic. We arrive in Hradec Kralove, still in eastern Bohemia, and one of the largest Czech cities, with a history dating back to the year 1225. Dinner and overnight in Hradec Kralove.
Day 9: Today will be a full day of sightseeing. After breakfast, we enjoy a guided tour of Hradec Kralove, the dowry city of the Czech Queens since the start of the 14th century. You’ll see the White Tower, and its fabulous observatory, the Elbe River and the Museum of Eastern Bohemia. Following the tour, we travel on to Kutna Hora for a guided tour through this gothic jewel, a city famous for it’s historic ties to silver mining since medieval days. A breathtaking, beautifully preserved reminder of this is the cathedral of St.Barbara, the patron of the miners. The original frescoes still adorn the interior walls. After visiting this UNESCO world heritage town, we travel on to Prague. In Prague, we check in for 3 nights to end the tour. Folklore dinner and overnight in Prague.
Day 10: Wake up this morning in the city of 100 spires…the unbelievable magnificence of Prague. This morning we board a tour bus for a grand city tour, part of which involves walking. You’ll see, hear and feel the “Royal Route”, the Castle and Palace District, the Cathedral and St.Vitus, the St. Charles Bridge, the historic Old town square with the famous astronomical clock and many other sights that have endeared Prague to many visitors from around the world. You won’t believe you’re actually there! The rest of the day is yours to explore on your own. Dinner on your own. Overnight in the same hotel.
Day 11: Start the day relaxed, with a leisurely breakfast and plan your day so that you take part in one of several guided walking tours offered today. We recommend the “Velvet Revolution” walk, guided in English by someone who participated and lived through those tumultuous times that toppled a totalitarianism regime of fear. There is also an in-depth insight into Prague’s Jewish heritage and the old Jewish quarter of Prague for those wanting to learn more about Josefov. You’ll see the old Jewish Cemetery, Pinkas, Maisel, the Spanish Synagogue, the Ceremonial Hall and other parts of preserved Jewish Heritage. You can also enjoy a 30 minute narrated boat cruise on the Vltava River, centered around the famous Charles Bridge. You’ll be astonished to learn for yourself that Prague also has canals. The day is yours to enjoy as you wish. Last overnight in your Prague hotel.
Day 12: This morning we check out and get transferred to the airport for our flights home. There will be only one shuttle to the airport today, so if you want to wait and leave at a later time (depending on your flight time) you’ll be on your own to take one of the hotel’s shuttle cars. The airport is very close to the City and the hotel.
